Tonight I made the best pasta sauce I've ever made. The best part was that I made it for a friend and I did not use a recipe. So, my friend is moving this Friday and over Memorial Day weekend, she and her family of four packed up the house. This included pots and pans. She was talking to me about what she should make for dinner which would not require any cooking and I got an idea. I love to cook for people and have a fully operational kitchen, so I offered to cook for them for the next couple of nights. What family doesn't like spaghetti. I don't cook pasta very often, but I decided to give it a whirl. The result was a feast!
I started out sauteeing an onion and some garlic in extra virgin olive oil. Meanwhile, I put some crushed tomatoes in a large saucepan. I added Italian spiced ground turkey to the onion and garlic until brown. I added some black pepper and season salt to the meat. I spiced the tomatoes with Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. When the meat was browned, I added the tomatoes. It sounds really simple, but it was so good that I felt I had to share. The family I cooked for is composed of two kids, one aged 3, the other 16, so I was a little worried about the amount of spice I included. I happened to have diced tomatoes and tomato paste in the cupboard, so I added that to cut the spice a little. I hope they like it. My husband sure did.
