When you make as many pork chops as I do, you may as well
learn how to make homemade apple sauce.
After doing some research, I couldn't believe how easy it was! I have experimented with different recipes,
and I think it’s best to keep it simple.
I found some apples from the farmer’s market that looked good, so I
thought I would make a batch. I forgot
one ingredient that I have used in the past (apple juice), but I don’t think
the apple sauce really needs it. All I
did was peel 4 out of the 6 apples (I mixture of different colors and types of
apple is best). I used my apple corer
and then cut each piece into thirds, checking for any leftover bits of
core. I added a little bit of water,
honey, and cinnamon. I brought the
apples to a boil and then let them simmer for 10 minutes. As I stirred the apples, they pretty much
fell apart. My husband likes chunky
apple sauce, so I just left it. If you
like smoother sauce, I would food process or use an immersion blender. Most people don’t like the peel, so you could
always peel all of the apples. This is
so simple, I won’t buy apple sauce from the store ever again.
